How adani group suffered

Adani group was under hacktivism about the circulation of fraudulent press releases concerning its operations in Kenya. One such fake release, titled "Adani Group Denounces Baseless Accusations and Threats," falsely claimed that the company threatened to disclose the names of Kenyan government officials who had allegedly received bribes if protests against the company continued.

What Happened?

On September 10, 2024, a fake press release titled "Adani Group Denounces Baseless Accusations and Threats" appeared online, alleging that Adani was involved in controversies around its activities in Kenya. This fabricated release was designed to look as if it came from Adani itself, casting doubt on the company’s operations in Kenya. The fake press release was posted on social media claiming that the Adani Group, had issued a warning to Kenyan officials and protestors over a potential project at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). This false release alleged that Adani would expose Kenyan government officials and others who supposedly received bribes if protests against its operations continued. However, Adani Group promptly responded by denying the authenticity of the press release, emphasizing it was fabricated and affirming that no such communication was ever issued by the company.

Who Fell for the fake?

The false press release led to heightened media and public scrutiny, especially due to Adani's previous controversies in Kenia, including the high-profile Hindenburg report. Instances like these can affect a company's reputation and stock prices, as stakeholders and investors may react to the uncertainty caused by such misinformation.

How it would be prevented

By using a blockchain-based solution like Wiztrust Protect, companies like Adani could authenticate and certify their official press releases. This technology secures communications on a tamper-proof digital ledger; Wiztrust Protect blockchain certification technology already certifies the communication to some major enterprises, like Scheider Electric, Groupe Beneteau, Vinci Concessions, TotalENergies, among others.

Wiztrust allows that anyone accessing the communications of the publisher: investors, partners, and the media, could verify the authenticity instantly. With Wiztrust, any unvrified or uncertified content, such as the fake press release, can been easily identified as fraudulent.
